Counselling at Alternatives

We have two person centred counsellors at Alternatives, both members of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Their approach is Humanistic. They provide counselling for individuals and couples.

Barrie Hopwood has been qualified for sixeen years,he has a Diploma in Counselling and is a BACP and UKRS Accredited Counsellor. Barrie is also a Metanoia trained and experienced supervisor.

Teresa Townsend was awarded her Diploma in Counselling by Middlesex University and has been counselling for eleven years. She is an EAP counsellor and a Critical Incident Debriefer.

Counselling provides a confidential, safe and friendly environment in which to explore those issues which concern you. A time and space set aside for you each week. Non-judgemental, listening support from a professionally trained counsellor. It helps you learn more about yourself in order to explore your concerns, to talk in a confidential setting, to see how your past can interact with the present.

Counselling can help with Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Bereavement, Low self esteem, Crisis and Anger.

You can also Learn about yourself, Explore new opportunities, Find new ways forward, Come to terms with and accept the past, Develop coping strategies, Gain Strength, Face your fears, Achieve personal growth.

The first step

For Counselling in Northwood contact Barrie or Teri for an informal chat and any more information you need. All calls are strictly confidential.

The fees for the initial approx. one hour assessment session are from £35. This session will help to assess your needs and to look forward through further counselling or an appropriate referal to another professional if necessary.

Further one hour sessions £35 -£50 depending on circumstances, time of appointment and if on own or as a couple.

Balance Coaching at Alternatives

Our Balance Coach is Katie Botten,an experienced personal development coach. Katie has over fifteen years experience in Human Resources and Organisational Development in a variety of organisations and now combines HR consultancy with her coaching and personal development practice.

Balance Coaching was founded on her firm belief that coaching should be an accessible and realistic option for anyone who wants more fulfilment and less stress in their life. Katie has a degree in Psychology and is a Master Practitioner of NLP and Master Practitioner of Time Line Therapy.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a collaborative, goal focused and non-judgemental process that can enable you to make easy and lasting improvements to your life.

You will work with your coach over an agreed number of one-to-one sessions to explore and understand what is important to you and how to define and achieve your goals.

You will resolve internal conflicts that have stopped you moving forward and will have the freedom to replace these with new positive beliefs.

Using techniques including outcome setting, career counselling, NLP and wheel of life, this approach ensures lasting results.

What is NLP?

Neuro Linguistic Programming is used in many areas of personal development. In summary it is a study of how successful people do what they do, and how others can adopt the same approach to their life and goals. It offers a powerful insight into how you and others operate and communicate and you can then use this learning and understanding to become more effective in achieving your goals.
