Reflexology and Reiki at Alternatives

We have several Reflexology practitioners at Alternatives.

Reflexology involves a method of treatment using massage to reflex areas on the hands and feet, most commonly the feet. These areas correspond to different parts of the body, the whole body being mapped out in the feet

A reflexologist can therefore treat the whole body , not only symptoms but also the causes of symptoms. Following examination of the feet and taking a medical history a reflexologist will apply a firm pressure ( making allowances for individual sensitivity ) to different points on the feet mainly using the thumb. Points on the feet corresponding to out of balance areas of the body may feel slightly uncomfortable or tender and the degree of tenderness indicates the degree of imbalance.

By trained interpretation and applying the correct pressure the reflexologist will treat any imbalances found. In general reflexology is a very pleasant treatment, can be beneficial for many disorders, for maintaining the body in good health and is also a very relaxing therapy.

Reflexology sessions are for approx. one hour and we charge £45.00

We have two main Reiki Therapists at Alternatives, both Masters. Some of the other therapists also incorporate Reiki into their treatments for added benefit. In addition to offering treatments we also teach levels one and two.
Reiki is a simple, natural and remarkable hands-on art of energy renewal, which was rediscovered a century ago by Dr. Mikao Usui of Kyoto, Japan. This healing system has since been passed down from Reiki masters to students via attunements. Attuned practitioners are able to channel this universal life force energy in concentration to assist themselves and others.

Reiki is pronounced ray-key and is a Japanese word meaning 'universal life energy'. It may be defined as the accessing of the universe's limitless source of energy to replenish and restore the individual's own life force energy; resulting in healing balance and rejuvenation. Reiki may be experienced as a tingling, warmth or heat, a distinct chill, or as tremors, pulsing, weight or weightlessness, in the hands (palms or fingers) of the practitioner and/ or in the body of the receiver. In some cases, Reiki is experienced without any of these usual physical sensations.

Reiki is far more than a physical healing modality; it also enhances mind, emotions and spiritual awareness, reuniting these four aspects in their optimal state of harmony and balance. It is a safe way of treating many acute and chronic conditions such as stress, sinusitis, menstrual problems, cystitis, migraine, asthma, M.E., eczema, arthritis, menopausal symptoms, back pain, anxiety, tension, depression, insomnia and sciatica.

It is suitable for everyone, including the very young and the elderly, pregnant women and those recovering from surgery. It is also a great tonic, and if you are in good health, Reiki can help you stay that way. The simplicity and nature of Reiki allows it to be used alongside any other complementary therapies and orthodox medical treatments.

Reiki treatments at Alternatives are for one hour and we charge £45.00
